HOW TO ORDER

Preparation of Soil

Remove all weed and debris.  Establish a rough grade eliminating the low spots.  It is recommended that you rototill 2 to 3 cubic yards of compost for every 1000 square feet of surface area (add 2 to 10 percent for slopes and curves).  Spread the compost an inch deep on the surface then rototill it to a depth of 3 to 4 inches.  Spread Water Crystals at this point if you are using them (see Water Crystals on the FAQ page for more information).  After you have completed this, rake the yard smooth removing all lumps of dirt and rocks, etc.  If you choose, you can roll the ground to firm up the soil.  DO NOT water the soil at this time as it makes installation very difficult!

Measuring and Ordering

If you measure the length times width of the area you are sodding, and then mulitply the two measurements together, you get the square feet needed.  Generally one should add 4 to 10 percent to allow for the way the sod is laid.  For curves and slopes use the higher percentage.  It is recommended that you order the sod after preparation is completed as it is very important that your sod is installed as soon as you get it.
