SOD INSTALLATION

Install your sod immediately upon delivery.  Begin the installation by installing the sod along the longest straight line of the area.  Push the edges and ends against the other tightly without stretching the roll. Stagger the sod as if you are laying bricks.  Do not overlap or leave any gaps.  On slopes lay the sod across the slope.  To fit sod around obstacles or in smaller places, merely cut the sod with a linoleum knife (preferably on the underside).  In hot weather be sure to put sod in the shade if possible and sprinkle with water. Try to never cover sod with heavy tarps as this creates heat and your sod will begin to dough.  It is crucial to begin watering your sod within 30 minutes of completing installation making certain the water penetrates the sod at least 4 inches.  Be sure to keep the sod soaked for the first 10 to 12 days.

LAWN CARE

Fertilizing

It is recommended that you fertilize your lawn approximately 3 times a year.  A good commercial fertilizer should be used.  Consult your local garden center for advise on the chemical composition for the time of year.  During the first year, avoid using weed killer combined with a fertilizer on the lawn.  Colorado Turf Inc fertilizer is 20-10-5 with 3% Iron and 8% Sulfur and is available for purchase.

Mowing

While our sod requires less moving than other brands, the perfect height to cut your lawn is 3 inches (2 inches in the spring and fall is OK).  Grass less than 2" is susceptible to disease and is less likely to cope with heat. Do not remove more than a third of the grass height during a single mowing.  You may have to mow as often as every 3 to 4 days when the lawn is actively growing but only every 7 to 10 days when the weather is hot, cold, or dry.
